George Morant was an Australian artist who painted both the best and worst of the Australian Mythos through a career spanning 40 years.

He has paintings in the National Gallery of Australia and the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery, and the artist and his work were the subjects of a 2013 book by Dr Michael Richards.

Many of Morant’s paintings are in closely held private and corporate collections both in Australia and overseas.

Morant's first exhibition was opened by the great Australian writer, Alan Marshall; while his only international exhibition was opened by (then) New Zealand Prime Minister, Helen Clarke.

Due to a reclusive nature letting his paintings do the talking, rather than seeking the spotlight, Morant is not well known by those “outside the know”, however his work and exhibitions were always excellently received by even the most respected Australian art critics.

During his lifetime his paintings sold for upwards of $30,000 on multiple occasions. Collectors, auction houses, and art valuers are invited to reach out for more information.

Morant passed away in 2020.
